The Rev. T.E. Summers, pastor of the Columbia Baptist church, paid tribute Thursday afternoon to Samuel G. Whittington, who died at the Virginia Mason hospital late Monday night at the age of 63, as a dependable, undemonstrative, loyal and faithful man -- a true Christian, at services conducted at the Masonic Temple. Mr. Whittington took seriously ill on Tuesday of last week, following general poor health for about two years. He had been a member of the Columbia Baptist Church since 1906, his wife, Kate Whittington, being a charter member since 1905. He had been a member of the board of trustees of the church almost continuously since. Mr. Whittington was born in Indiana, coming from that state to the Valley in 1900. His wife also came from Indiana to Seattle but a few months before him, and although born and raised in adjoining counties, they did not become acquainted until moving here. They were married Dec 15, 1891. A dinner was given at the local church last Dec 15, commemorating their 35th wedding anniv. At the time of his death, Mr. Whittington was chief recorder in the county auditor's office. He had also worked in the county treasurer's office for some time. For 12 years he had engaged in business with his brother, SW Whittington. He had always been an active worker in church, fraternal and public affairs. Besides leaving his wife he was also the brother of mrs. Lulu E. Harris of Oxford, Oh; Mrs. Anna Fields of Connersville, Ind; Mrs. Elsie Aust and Southey W. Whittington of Seattle. he was a member of Ark Lodge 286; F&AM; Amith Chapter; Royal Rach Masons and WOW Home Camp 286.
